Job Title: Chief of Party (COP) 

Level: Senior Management 

Reports to: Managing Partner 

Job Type: Annual contract with option of extension to 5 years based on performance 

Location: On-site (Abuja) 

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide strategic leadership and direction across all project components, including Health Financing, RMNCAH, Malaria, and GHSA
  2. Lead project planning, budgeting, and resource allocation, ensuring alignment with USAID objectives and national health goals
  3. Function as the primary liaison between the USAID and other collaborating agencies on all pragmatic, administrative and financial matters related to the project
  4. Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality program results and ensure cross-functional collaboration
  5. Develop strong partnerships and foster communication with stakeholders, including the FMOH, NPHCDA, donors, and other implementing partners
  6. Ensure project compliance with USAID regulations, including timely reporting and adherence to financial and operational standards
  7. Direct the program’s localization strategy to ensure locally led activities, tailored capacity strengthening, and engagement of local organizations
  8. Oversee monitoring and evaluation activities, making data-driven decisions to ensure the achievement of project goals
  9. Supervise and assess the performance of senior staff and ensure supervisory and accountability systems are in place for all long-term and short-term advisors, sub partners, consultants and staff
  10. Serve as the primary liaison with USAID, ensuring that project outcomes are aligned with donor expectations
  11. Represent the project and Sydani Group at key forums, advocating for project objectives and promoting best practices


Required Qualifications

  1. Advanced degree (MD/MBBS, PhD,) in Public Health, International Development, or Health Systems
  2. Minimum of 15 years in senior management roles leading large, complex health projects, including experience with USAID-funded programs and primary health care
  3. Proven experience in leading RMNCAH programs with a focus on reducing maternal and child mortality rates 
  4. Proven expertise in designing and leading large-scale malaria control initiatives in high-burden regions, with a focus on reducing transmission and improving health outcomes
  5. At least 7+ years of experience overseeing GHSA programs in Nigeria, with deep knowledge of GHSA protocols, particularly in managing public health emergencies 
  6. Previous leadership roles in USAID-funded programs (CoP, Deputy CoP, Technical Director, Senior Technical Advisor or Technical Advisor), with responsibility for ensuring program outcomes and compliance
  7. Experience working with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) on health policy, health system strengthening, or participation in technical working groups
  8. Experience working with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, particularly in primary health care systems and RMNCAH programs
  9. Experience in leading malaria control initiatives in high-burden regions
